We’ve already done 5 Shots in 5 Bars, 5 Beers in 5 Bars and 5 Cocktails in 5 Bars and Montreal has so many great bars that it’s always difficult to narrow down a Top 5. But, after careful planning, we finally settled on the Top 5 Best Bars to help you get out of those wet clothes and into a dry martini… … More

  • MONTREAL RESTAURANTS IN THE NEWS

    Posted by

I’ve always been impressed by how often Montreal and its food scene popped up in The New York Times and other publications I like to read – but recently things seem to have kicked up a notch. All of a sudden, local chefs and restaurants are being written up seemingly everywhere, so much so that I had to ask myself why… … More

  • LA FETE DE LA GASTRONOMIE IN MONTREAL

    Posted by

The Fete de la Gastronomie (or “Gastronomic Party”) is all of a sudden a big deal in France. In a country where pretty much everything is a reason to party, the first annual Fete de la Gastronomie was declared in France this year as a yearly event, to celebrate the inclusion of the traditional French gastronomic meal in UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage of Humanity… … More

  • DENIS GAGNON FASHION SHOW AT BIRKS

So many things I love under one roof: bubbly, bling and beautiful clothes. My friends, Montreal Fashion Week doesn’t get much better than this. When I heard that fashion designer Denis Gagnon was going to present his Spring and Summer 2012 collection at Birks jewellery store, I couldn’t click send on that RSVP email fast enough… … More

  • AFFORDABLY CLASSY TEA SERVICE AT LE RENOIR

    Posted by

Sometimes all one craves is a little nibble. After a day of sight-seeing, city-strolling, shopping, spa-going, or museum-visiting (all in one day if you’re lucky), I need a refuel. A bit of something sweet, a taste of something savoury, plus a hit of caffeine and I’m good to go ‘til dinner. Just recently I discovered the perfect spot to satiate a late afternoon hunger. Here’s the lowdown on high tea service in the heart of downtown… … More

  • HYATT REGENCY MONTREAL

    Posted by

What came first, the Hyatt Regency or the Jazz Festival? Well, the Hyatt did in 1976 but the Jazz Festival moved right across the street shortly afterwards, designating the Hyatt as the place to be for the best shows in town. In fact, you don’t even need to be within the Jazz Festival grounds to enjoy the world-class entertainment. Simply saddle up to the bar, order a cocktail and hit the expansive wrap-around terrace with the best view of the shows happening right across the street. With a full bar and restaurant and a pool with glass sliding doors, why would you want to be anywhere else? … More

I really needed to get out of Toronto at that time, to reflect, and to surround myself with new stimuli. It was very cold during the visit, but I spent a lot of time walking around anyway, taking photos, going to galleries, and visiting restaurants with old friends. This shot is on Sherbrooke, just west of the Main. I've posted this before, in a flickr pool called "It can't be more Montreal than this". I like this image because it looks like it's very cold out, and yet there are people moving about in what I think is one of the country's most charming cities.
