  • 'IT'S AN HONOR JUST TO BE NOMINATED!' WHATEVER. WE WANT TO WIN THIS!

    Posted by

Each year our friends over at tripoutgaytravel.com hold a little awards contest that celebrates the best in the glamorous/scandalous world of gay travel.

Montreal has been nominate for “Best Global Destination” – which makes sense for a variety of reasons: stellar gay village, delicious food, accessibility to Americans, cute accents and salacious nightlife. We’re kinda also awesome for hosting the world’s first international “Queer of the Year” contest.

I thought I’d make a little video that highlights the ‘gayness’ of Montreal.

We promise to keep on rockin’ it if you show us some voting love. You can vote with your Facebook or Twitter accounts, or you can keep it anonymous.

But whatever you do, just get out there and vote now… for Montreal! … More

  • DRESS UP TIME IN TENNIS LAND

    Posted by

Well, there we were. Neatly lined up behind media stanchions. Tennis legend, the ever-elegant lady of the courts, Chris Evert, (fabulous in fuchsia) was guest of honour at the red carpet event hosted by Tennis Canada and the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. Chris, a three-time champion of the Rogers Cup, was inducted into the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame on Monday August 16 during a centre court presentation at Uniprix Stadium. … More

  • MONTREAL'S ITALIAN WEEK

    Posted by

Montreal’s Italian Week takes place this week, until August 15th, which the more observant of you will notice is actually more than a week. But given the range of activities it boasts- art exhibits, food, music, cars, bocce tournaments and much more- it’s pretty evident that a week would not have been enough… … More

  • QUEER OF THE YEAR: FINAL FIVE ANNOUNCED!

    Posted by

Over the past few weeks we’ve had the pleasure of hearing folks testify why they might be the “Queer of the Year.” We’ve had people come out of the closet, march alone in their small town pride parade and flex their muscles in hopes of making a lasting impression with you!

It was definitely some tight competition with video entries coming from across North America.

After much humming and hawing, the panel (comprised of representatives at Tourisme Montreal, Montreal Pride and other community members) has made their decision! Here are the five finalists! … More

  • RETRO INBOARDS GATHER AT CLASSIC BOAT FESTIVAL

    Posted by

Remember those gorgeous, sleek, low, wooden boats that whipped by in the movies?  Ladies usually wore a Hermès scarf and big Jackie Kennedy sunglasses.  The men drove the boat.

You’ll be able to see 80 of these classics at the Festival du Bateau Classique in the Old Port (McGill and de la Commune Streets) of Montreal, from August 20th through the week-end. … More

  • THIS WEEKEND IN MONTREAL (JULY 30 TO AUGUST 1)

    Posted by

Another busy weekend in Montreal! With two major festivals (Osheaga and Divers/Cité) taking place, the city will be buzzing with rock stars and drag queens. It’s the sort of weekend that dreams are made of!

We’ve got 10 suggestions to rock it out “à la Montréal” this weekend…

    ——————————————————————————————————————

[music festival] OSHEAGA – Arguably the biggest music event of the year in Montreal, Osheaga is an outdoor, 2-day festival that features the coolest names in music today: Arcade Fire, Weezer, K’naan, The National, Robyn, Snoop Dogg and many more.

[lgbt festival] DIVERS/CITÉ – After nearly 20 years of celebrating the best of gay culture, music and art, Divers/Cité has another stellar line up of performers set to seduce the city. Don’t miss ‘Mascara’ – one of the biggest drag events in the world! … More

  • DARLING FOUNDRY: ART IN THE CITY

    Posted by

The Darling Foundry – yes, it was once a foundry – is one of Montreal’s famous art spaces. My favourite urban legend is that a feng shui master once visited this abandoned space during its transformation into a gallery and said ‘’there was great heat here once.’’  The gallery is still hot today – one of the city’s most famed alternative galleries. Located on Ottawa Street, the current exhibit shows two expositions:  one by Luis Jacob, and also in situ works that unite this street from east to west and includes Griffintown, a charming area threatened by urban development. This is where the lovely, big horses hide in their little stables, waiting for their calèches or sleds. … More

  • FIREWORKS IN MONTREAL

We love us our pyrotechnics in Montreal.

Each summer, from June to late July, the top fireworks companies around the globe present 30-minute long shows on Saturday nights to compete for the top prize. The International des Feux, our International Fireworks Festival, attracts the world’s leading designers, bigbang technicians and sparkly optic addicts. The fireworks are synchronized to music broadcast over Rythme FM ( 105,7). … More

I really needed to get out of Toronto at that time, to reflect, and to surround myself with new stimuli. It was very cold during the visit, but I spent a lot of time walking around anyway, taking photos, going to galleries, and visiting restaurants with old friends. This shot is on Sherbrooke, just west of the Main. I've posted this before, in a flickr pool called "It can't be more Montreal than this". I like this image because it looks like it's very cold out, and yet there are people moving about in what I think is one of the country's most charming cities.
