  • SOCIETY FOR ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY (SAT)

    Posted by

The SAT, or Society for Arts and Technology, is one of Montreal’s most dynamic and innovative spaces. Home to everything from cultural happenings to DJ nights (including many of the Mutek festival events over the years), it’s an impressive venue with a tech-centered, cutting-edge mandate. What they’ve added recently speaks directly to this point: the Foodlab, a guerilla kitchen with an eye towards experimentation, and the Satosphere, a 360-degree immersive environment filled with projectors and over 150 speakers. We sent our cameraman to give you a sneak peak but make sure you check it out for yourself. Society for Arts and Technology, 1201 Saint-Laurent, (514) 844-2033

  • FALL 2011 CONCERTS IN MONTREAL

    Posted by

When it comes to concert craziness, it seems that each subsequent year outdoes its predecessor, and 2011 was no exception. Record attendance was reported at Montreal’s major music festivals and the number of club and larger venue music events hit an all-time high. Clearly, the appetite for music entertainment in Montreal continues to be one that’s not easily satisfied. Hungry music gourmandizers, therefore, will want to take note that Prince, The Wailers, Jay-Z & Kanye, Feist, Judas Priest, Bon Iver, the New York Philharmonic and many more represent the best of what’s left in 2011… … More

  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: OCTOBER 28 TO NOVEMBER 3

    Posted by

At the centre of the week ahead is Montreal’s favourite holiday: Halloween! Some have futilely argued with me that Halloween isn’t actually a holiday; they are wrong. Just like any other holiday worth its salt, Halloween has traditional costumes (witches, the living dead, sexy kitties), special dishes (candy), and time-honoured rituals (treat or treating, dance parties, making out with masked strangers). And this week, Halloween is celebrated from Friday night to Monday night! And in between, catch some live music, theatre, dance, a new movie and life-altering art… … More

  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: OCTOBER 21-28

    Posted by

No doubt about it, it’s fall now – the north winds blow, the leaves fall, the days grow shorter. Which also means Montreal nights are longer, and what better excuse to eat, drink and be merry well into the wee hours. Lovers of live music will adore this week in Montreal, as will lovers of film, as one film festival comes to an end and another begins. Montreal stages brace for drama, comedy, politics and the stomping of hundreds of horses hooves (seriously!). Art, poetry and spoken word round out the busy week with heady, ready made-in-Montreal creative stuff.. … More

  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: OCTOBER 14-20

    Posted by

As Montrealers gear up for our favourite non-holiday holiday, Halloween, our imaginations begin to run a little wilder than usual – and so do we. All that energy has to go somewhere – maybe that’s why there’s such a variety of creative, rebellious things to do this week. A film festival that turns mainstream on its head, a rebel-yelling ska festival, experimental dance, avant-garde art and spoken-word performances, old and new rock n’ roll… … More

  • FREE THINGS IN MONTREAL: OCTOBER

    Posted by

As the warm weather truly wanes here in Montreal, our heralded free outdoor activities are slowly replaced by free indoor activities – so dress for both this October. Indoors and out, there’s much to see and hear: modern art, interactive dance, jazz, movies and more. … More

  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL (AUGUST 19-25)

    Posted by

The end of August in Montreal is a sweet time – the days aren’t too hot, the night aren’t too cool, and the city seems to move at an even more relaxed pace than usual. Even with all the things going on this week in Montreal, leisure is still a central focus: chill out with a film at the Montreal World Film Festival, sail the seas of nostalgia at the Classic Boat Festival, make a temporary switch to Caribbean time at the Reggae Festival, or, if you’re wired a little differently, revel in the white noise of this weekend’s NASCAR race… … More

  • GRUMMAN 78: MONTREAL'S FAMOUS TACO TRUCK

    Posted by

In my neighbourhood, people really look forward to the weekend these days for yet another reason: Grumman ’78 tacos. Indeed, these tacos, which are now famous thanks to a Bastille day visit from Anthony Bourdain (more on this later), mostly exist as transient foodstuffs, sold out of their picaresque truck during most of the city’s major festivals. Otherwise, you gotta be in the right place at the right time… … More

  • ARCADE FIRE PLAYING FREE SHOW IN MONTREAL ON SEPTEMBER 22

    Posted by

Montreal’s Arcade Fire have just announced that they’ll be playing a free show at the Quartier des Spectacles‘ Place des Festivals on September 22, 2011. The show, part of Pop Montreal’s 10th anniversary festival, is a tip of the cap to their hometown. “Our band couldn’t exist without Montreal,” says the band’s Régine Chassagne. “After having had the chance to tour extensively around the world, we’re very excited to finally come home. And to do so the Montreal way, we hoped to play a free outside show, on the very last day of summer as a big ‘Thank you’ to the beautiful city we love so much…” … More
