Montreal’s Jacques Villeneuve is a hometown hero: only the third motorsport driver in history to have won championship races in CART, the Indy 500 and F1. The Montreal Buzz caught up with him to talk racing, his role in the French version of the Pixar movie, Cars 2, and where he spends his time in Montreal… … More
Montreal’s Grand Prix attracts a jet-setting, international crowd, many with seemingly bottomless expense accounts. And while the races at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit are the main attraction, let’s face it, it’s the over-the-top parties and celebs like Carmen Electra that really spice things up… … More
Just as the first real heatwave of the year ends, this weekend begins – but that doesn’t mean it’s not packed with super hot stuff to do. So hot that not even a forecast of scattered showers can put a damper on this action. Which is a good thing because much of what’s going on this weekend happens outdoors: a huge Formula 1 race (and parties and a beer festival to go along with it), a massive celebration of French music from here around the world, weird and wild independent theatre and music and street fairs galore. … More
The St-Laurent Street Sale, aka The Saint-Laurent Street Fair, aka Main Madness, is a testament to the fact that if Montrealers were given the opportunity, they would spend every summer day outside, eating, shopping and drinking in the sun. So, last night I’m running on the spot and watching the entire Fast and Furious franchise (a fabulous documentary series starring Paul Walker) with the help of several TVs lined up in a row and I was all, “Fast cars!” which reminded me of my mom who loves that Tracy Chapman song Fast Car because it’s “the story of my life/that’s how you were born,” or something but anyway, this got me thinking about Montreal and racecars. This week we tip our hats to the ‘urban formalist’ work of Flickr superstar dzpixel. With a sporty photo entitled ‘Scuderia Ferrari F1 team,’ we were impressed at how he got up close and personal with the shrine that many people call Ferrari.
Well done.
But the work of dzpixel is not just fast cars. What sealed the deal for us at THE MONTRÉAL BUZZ, was his exploration of vacant Montreal transit stations. He successfully captures spaces, which are typically seaming with people, empty. There is a warm sci-fi quality that appealed to our cool cyber-hearts.
Well done, indeed.
