  • 10 FAMOUS MUSICIANS CHAT ABOUT MONTREAL

    Posted by

It was a fun year for The Montreal Buzz as we chased down our favorite rockstars for their sentiments on the city. Whether in town as part of one of the many stellar festivals or touring for new album releases, most artists made time to do a bit of exploring around Montreal and had some great things to say.

In random order, here are our ten most memorable musician moments. … More

  • MEET A MONTREALER: SANTA CLAUS

    Posted by

Many people don’t realize it, but Mr. Christmas himself is a Montrealer.

Each year, to get his fix of culture and fine dining, Santa Claus spends July and August in his Montreal summer home in the trendy neighborhood of Mile End, where he goes incognito in traditional Hasidic Jewish garb.

Despite the über-busy time of year for Santa, he made a bit of time for The Montreal Buzz to chat over eggnog lattes at juliette & chocolat last weekend. … More

Michel Rabagliati is a graphic novelist born and based in Montreal.

He has written several semi-autobiographical comic books featuring the life and times of a fellow named Paul. In 1999, his first publication, Paul in the Country, earned him a Harvey Award for Best New Talent.

We feel this is pretty darn neat. And we think you should meet Michel. … More

  • CHICAGO'S TOP CHEF CHARLIE TROTTER IN MONTREAL TO HONOUR NORMAND LAPRISE

    Posted by

It seems to be the thing, these days, to see celebrities flying in, making a splash, and flying out. Jean Paul Gaultier, überchef Gordon Ramsay – who’s opening a restaurant in town in February! – and also…. Charlie Trotter, who’s a veritable culinary legend in Chicago, where his restaurant Charlie Trotter’s has been among the highest-rated for as long as there have been reputable restaurant guides.

And yes, we spoke to him, too. … More

  • A BACKSTAGE INTERVIEW WITH SARAH HARMER

    Posted by

Hot off the heels of a new album (Oh Little Fire) and last week’s exclusive iTunes Session EP, Sarah Harmer was in Montreal last week to rock out at Cabaret Juste Pour Rire. After her previous offering of folksie-bluegrass, “rocking out” has become a greater priority for the Ontario-based songstress. Her new album  is “a gust of rock more forceful than anything she’s played since her mid-‘90s days with rambunctious Kingston rockers Weeping Tile.”

But despite exchanging fiddles for electric guitars and a cooler, grittier soundscape, Harmer is still the introspective, lovelorn woman that Canadians have known to love and appreciate.

We caught up with her backstage to talk about the new album, her activism and what she’s growing in her garden. … More

  • A CHAT WITH POP MONTREAL'S DAN SELIGMAN

    Posted by

We’ve talked about the music and the, uh, not-music of Pop Montreal. With the fest now in full swing, it seemed like the perfect time to have a chat with Dan Seligman, the festival’s Creative Director. In the years I’ve been covering music in Montreal, “Dad” Seligman has been a constant presence, quick with a quip but, more importantly, a person whose passion for music has been imbued into the festival that he helped start. … More

  • DAVID USHER ON MUSIC, MILE END & MONTREAL

    Posted by

David Usher is many things: musician, humanitarian, artist and father. He’s rocked around the country with his band Moist, won a handful of Junos (the Canadian ‘Grammy’) and has had radio hits on three continents. And we love him for all those reasons. But he remains especially near and dear to our hearts because he’s a Montrealer. … More

That morning we packed our bags and sought out crepes for breakfast before heading to the station. I cried while packing because I didn't want to leave - the four days we had spent in the city had been perfect. We decided to take one last stroll while waiting for our train. We walked out to the street only to discover it was closed off for the Pride Parade! I took a few minutes to snap some shots of everyone waiting for the parade to begin. The Montréal Buzz posted a photo:	I was in Montreal last winter (February) just after the death of one of my parents. I really needed to get out of Toronto at that time, to reflect, and to surround myself with new stimuli. It was very cold during the visit, but I spent a lot of time walking around anyway, taking photos, going to galleries, and visiting restaurants with old friends. This shot is on Sherbrooke, just west of the Main. I've posted this before, in a flickr pool called "It can't be more Montreal than this". I like this image because it looks like it's very cold out, and yet there are people moving about in what I think is one of the country's most charming cities.
