MEET A MONTREALER: JEAN-AYMERI DE MAGISTRIS

Meet Jean-Aymeri. He’s a man-about-town; his Facebook and Twitter accounts vibrating with the tales of a man on the move. In fact, he’s so connected and “on the scene” that I hope he doesn’t steal my job. I’m watching you De Magistris! Anyway, between his projects in art, design and fashion, this man’s got his fingers in multiple pies! A few years ago I actually joined a Facebook group called “All I Really Want to Do Is Read Good Books in Interesting Places” simply because the concept of the group successfully summed up the leisurely lifestyle that I dream of living. “Reading” and “Vacation” go together like… well… parties and poutine. Montreal, in all its romantic glory, has a ton of interesting places to read good books. I’ve named ten of my favorite locations, and paired them with an author whose literary landscapes might compliment the Montreal spaces mentioned. Happy reading!

This weekend’s forecast calls for a relaxed 25˚C (that 77˚F to our American friends). It’s going to be sunny and mild — the perfect kind of weather for roaming the cobblestone streets, tucking into bistros for glasses of beer and watching the world go by. QUEER OF THE YEAR: FINAL FIVE ANNOUNCED!

Over the past few weeks we’ve had the pleasure of hearing folks testify why they might be the “Queer of the Year.” We’ve had people come out of the closet, march alone in their small town pride parade and flex their muscles in hopes of making a lasting impression with you! It was definitely some tight competition with video entries coming from across North America. After much humming and hawing, the panel (comprised of representatives at Tourisme Montreal, Montreal Pride and other community members) has made their decision! Here are the five finalists!

Hey, guess what? The other day I was shopping for underwear at a generic department store, and there in the ginch aisle was a massive sign that read: “BACK TO SCHOOL SALE!” When I decipher the subtext to this sign, I believe it actually said to me, “Guess what fool, summer’s not going to last forever!” It was the first time a commercial sign made me cry.
