The perfect solution to that problem is to visit some of the high end spots in the city at lunchtime when they offer a more affordable 2 or 3 course table d’hôte menu for you to enjoy. You get the same quality food, same creative kitchen team and same lovely location for a much sweeter price – it’s surely a deal that’s too good to pass up?

Le St-Urbain: Le St-Urbain may not be conveniently located in downtown Montreal, but it is definitely worth the trip. Talented chef Marc-André Royal’s cuisine is always fresh, innovative and beautifully plated. Everything that comes out of his kitchen exudes passion and love of the craft of cooking. The lunch menu is no exception and will surprise every time.
(2 courses – $20 to $22)

La Chronique: Food lovers rejoice, you can sample the cuisine of one of the best (and priciest) French restaurants in the city at a more affordable price. The food at tiny, 30-seater La Chronique is as delicious as it is beautiful. The chic Laurier street restaurant doesn’t need to be a “special occasion” spot anymore, not when the lunch menu is so appealing. Go ahead, indulge. (2 courses – $24, 3 courses – $29)

Milos: When it comes to restaurants, Milos may just be one of Montreal’s finest culinary exports. With restaurants in Las Vegas, Athens, Miami and New York, it is probably the most well known high-end spot in the city. But you don’t need to break the bank to have a taste of Milos’s fresh and simple Greek cuisine. Their lunch menu is elaborate and well thought out, with a great focus on fish and seafood and on the quality of each ingredient. Try the tomato, feta and olive salad dressed with Milos’s very own extra virgin Greek olive oil. (3 courses – $20)

Osteria Venti: One of my favourite Italian restaurants in Montreal serves up fresh fare from all 20 regions of Italy. Chef Michele Forgione’s delicious food never disappoints and always delights. Everything from the bread to the pasta to the housemade charcuterie is made fresh on the premises. A special note goes to the desserts, which are just outstanding! If you are anywhere near Old Montreal at lunchtime, head towards Osteria Venti, you won’t regret it. Buon apetito! (2 courses – $18, 3 courses – $23)

Tavern Square Dominion: Dominion Square Tavern is located in the middle of the Golden Square Mile in downtown Montreal. This unique restaurant’s menu reflects a strong French Canadian culinary influence with a sprinkle of British pub gastronomy. They offer a new dish every day as well as a à la carte lunch menu. If you are feeling indulgent, may I suggest you order the sticky toffee pudding for dessert? It’s one of the best I’ve ever had and is worth every extra penny… and calorie! (2 course menu (plat du jour) > $22, À la carte lunch menu is also available)
