Colin Stetson: If you don’t know this Montreal-based wind and brass master’s solo work, on display on the 10^th at Sala Rossa, maybe you’ve heard of some of the people he’s played with: Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, David Byrne, Feist, Sinead O’Connor…

Gipsy Kings: Perennial fan favourites The Gypsy Kings and special guests Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo bring their “rumba catalana” sound (traditional flamenco music with a pop update) to Place Des Arts on the 13th.

Interpol: Though the New York indie rock band are no longer joined by bassist Carlos Dengler, they released a new self-titled album in September which will be on full display on the 16^th at Metropolis.

Goo Goo Dolls: Yes, the Goo Goo Dolls still exist. They play the Olympia on the 16th.

Enrique Iglesias: Enrique’s latest song, Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You), has been a massive success on the charts. You can bet that he plays that version of the song at the Bell Centre on the 17th, rather than the way more explicit one that you can easily find with a little digging.

Rich Aucoin: On a mission to prove that Maritime music is more than just a bunch of fiddlers, indie pop artist Rich Aucoin, who once travelled across Canada on a bike while raising money for kids with cancer, hits Il Motore on the 17^th with (mostly) local acts The Pop Winds and Pete Samples opening things up.

Bon Jovi: Middle-aged women all over Quebec have had the 18-19 of February, when Bon Jovi play back-to-back shows at the Bell Centre, circled on their calendars for months now. I’ll leave it at that for fear of incurring their wrath.

Morcheeba: These turn-of-the-century trip pop pioneers have recently welcomed singer Skye Edwards back into their fold, and, having seen them live before, I can confidently tell you that you should go see them on the 19^th at Metropolis.

Braids: I talked about this up-and-coming local act during last month’s concert roundup and the show had sold out before I even had time to press “publish” on the post. Good thing for all of us,  that they play Il Motore on the 19th.

Yann Tiersen: Most people know this French musician and composer as the man who created the beloved Amelie soundtrack, but his live show (Metropolis on the 21st) is anything but predictable, with Tiersen playing piano, accordion, violin, electric guitar and more…

Tommy Youngsteen and the Million Dollar Band: The band playing February’s final show of note, at Casa on the 27th, features members of Stars, the Sam Roberts Band and The Stills. And when I tell you that it’s a Tom Petty/Bruce Springsteen/Neil Young tribute band, perhaps the name will make a little more sense.

Brandon Flowers: Brandon Flowers, the front man for The Killers, hails from Las Vegas, as his casino-themed website attests. For his solo show on December 3^rd at Club Soda, fans can expect, well, basically the same fancifully glossy pop that The Killers are known for.

Stars: This Montreal-Toronto band always seem to do an early winter show and this year it falls on the 4^th at Metropolis. Alongside Stars’ passionate “indie pomp”, the great Young Galaxy will be on hand to help keep things appropriately dreamy.

Rufus Wainwright: It’s pretty clear that the Montreal Buzz loves the Wainwrights. For this show on the 7^th at Theatre St-Denis, you get the clan’s prodigal son, Rufus, performing solo, drawing largely from his most recent release, All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu.

Rammstein: Sure, November might have had a Gwar concert, but, on December 9^th, the certifiably insane/awesome German metal band Rammstein prepare to destroy the Bell Centre.

Tricky : The one-time Massive Attack member went out on his own in the mid-90s and basically created his own genre of dark, punk and dub-heavy trip hop. He’s back with a new album that shows he hasn’t any of that slow-burning fire and remains even more difficult to categorize. He plays Club Soda on the 11^th.

Joe Satriani: Like Rammstein, Satriani does play the guitar. But this Grammy-nominated guitarist, whose collaboration resume includes whose-who of musical legends, plays instrumental rock, so that’s about where the Rammstein connection ends. Rock out on December 12^th at Metropolis

Dweezil Zappa: Holidays are all about family, so what better than a son making money off- sorry, that’s not right- I mean, paying tribute to his father, the great Frank Zappa, on the 14^th at Metropolis.

Beast: If your December needs a fortifying shot before everything goes all family-time on you, the Montreal-based practitioners of “trip rock” have a massive show on the Dec 16^th at Metropolis that might just fit the bill.

Broken Social Scene: When Toronto’s sprawling rock collective leave their own solo projects to join up and play together again, like they are on December 18^th at Metropolis, you never know you’ll end up seeing on stage. But odds are it will be good.

S. Carey: Here’s how I picture this going down: it’s December 18^th and there’s snow everywhere and you’ve just finished a day of trudging around the city. You wander into the cozy Casa, grab a warm drink and catch S. Carey (whom you might know from Bon Iver and the appropriately named White Hinterland) and, lo and behold, you start getting into the holiday spirit.

Since we’re already more than a week into October, let’s get right into what this month’s concert schedule has in store for you. With shows from Joan Baez, Massive Attack, Phoenix, Ryuichi Sakamoto and so much more, October is as musically stacked a month as Montreal has had in a while…

Joan Baez: On October 15^th at the Theatre St-Denis, one of the true legends of folk music plays an intimate show for fans both young and old. This singer, songwriter and incredibly active activist is going to sell out the place very soon, so get your tickets ASAP or sooner.

Blonde Redhead:  The trio’s Simone and Amedeo Pace may have grown up in Montreal, but their artful take on indie rock has garnered a truly international following. They play Metropolis on October 16^th with Pantha Du Prince

Gwar: It makes me happy that a group as totally insane as Gwar exist and are touring- they’re like Kiss dipped in a horror movie and Dungeons & Dragons. Watch them weird up the Telus Theatre on Oct. 17^th.

Massive Attack : A show that seems like it jumped out of a time machine from 10 years ago, when trip hop was king. The addition of Thievery Corporation for this Bell Centre show on October 18^th seals the deal.

Roger Waters: The Wall Live: All the members of Pink Floyd may not be involved in this tour but the group’s trademark over-the-top theatrics and pyrotechnics will be certainly be on hand during the 2 night (19^th and 20^th) run at the Bell Centre.

Phoenix: This show at Cepsum on October 21^st is going to be massive and not just because the place holds 5000 people. Not only are Phoenix one of the more exciting live acts around, but the cool lineup of opening bands- Tokyo Police Club and Wavves- are absolutely worth showing up early for.

Ryuichi Sakamoto: If you’re not aware of Sakamoto’s music, then a cozy show on October 22^nd at the beautiful Theatre Outremont would be the perfect opportunity to get better acquainted with the classical/experimental/new-age composer and pianist.

Die Antwoord: Are they a joke or are they serious or are they just totally insane? I’m not sure even sure these rave rappers from South Africa even know, but last time they came to Montreal they played a much smaller venue than this time around when they take over Metropolis on October 25^th.

Wintersleep and The Besnard Lakes: Let’s wrap up the month on October 30^th with what will be just a straight-up-solid Canadian rock show at Cabaret du Mile End, featuring Montreal’s beloved psych-rockers Besnard Lakes
