The number of Montrealers showing their collections, last week, at New York fashion week seem to be rising every season. In anticipation of next week’s Montreal fashion week, here are three brands that created the buzz this time around. RAD BY RAD HOURANI The ubiquitous Montreal designer Rad Hourani’s fourth show in New York attracted a crowd of discriminating fashion lovers and was simultaneously broadcast on the web. The unisex spirit inherent to every new Rad Hourani collection was, once again, translated into a geometrical conversation of textures and clean lines, amplified by the designer’s everlasting love story between black & white. In addition to his clothing line, Rad introduced his first fragrance and a very limited collection of sunglasses, made in collaboration with eyewear company Mykita. At this pace, we suspect it won’t be long before we see a first Rad Hourani flagship store open up in a prime location (New York? Paris? or… Radland?) and we start hearing the fashion elite « adjectifying » the designer’s name (very Rad, isn’t?). The fashion show can be seen on the Rad Hourani’s website.
The number of Montrealers showing their collections, last week, at New York fashion week seem to be rising every season. In anticipation of next week’s Montreal fashion week, here are three brands that created the buzz this time around.

RAD BY RAD HOURANI

The ubiquitous Montreal designer Rad Hourani’s fourth show in New York attracted a crowd of discriminating fashion lovers and was simultaneously broadcast on the web.

MACKAGE

Mackage were now at their third presentation at New York Fashion week, and by the look of this latest show, things are very very promising for the Montreal staple brand. Beyond coats and leather jackets, this latest collection added a new edge of sexyness with chic and fresh summer dresses that made it instantly through W Magazine’s twitter. As with any exciting fashion show, the glamour wasn’t only onstage and paparazzis could also feed off the first row presence of celebrities like Sean Lennon (pictured below).

COMPLEX GEOMETRIES

Newcomer to the fashion week but not a beginner by any means, Complex Geometries has been selling in Asia, Russia, Australia, Europe, the United States and throughout Canada for some time now. So for his first presentation in New York, Montreal-based designer Clayton Evans didn’t make any compromise to his complex vision and showed a collection that’s almost fully unisex. Adaptable silks, cotton and tulle pieces were at the core of this androgynous fashion essay, which created quite a buzz among the fashion-forward community. Fashion food for thoughts.
