To celebrate, they’ve booked an all-star line up for the fest held in the Old Port…
Headlining this year is legendary Jamaican musician and actor Jimmy Cliff. You might know him from the seminal cult film The Harder They Come. In addition to being a ferocious performer and actor, he’s the only living musician to hold the Order of Merit awarded by the Jamaican government for achievement in arts and sciences. Jimmy closes the festival on August 19, where you can expect all the classics plus some tracks from his latest offering, Rebirth (2012).

Montreal DJ, producer and iconoclast, Poirier, will perform a set with Face- T that you won’t want to miss on August 17. Later that day, Cham of Ghetto Story fame, who has worked with Alicia Keys, Akon and Foxy Brow will be performing. Kick off Saturday with Khago, one Jamaican’s best dancehall artists.

Now, everyone likes a good old-fashioned feud and since June a storm has been brewing between Khago and Assassin aka Agent Sasco who are both slated to perform at this year’s festival. They both play on August 18, so you can see how all of this unfolds, as their clashes are a hot debate in the reggae/dancehall world.

But there’s more to Reggae Fest than the spats, right? Popcaan is a Jamaican dancehall artist whose major hit Only Man She Want is a real slick track and the video features a youtube disclaimer for inappropriate material, which is always a good sign. See him get wild on August 18. Later on August 18, Konshens brings the riddim, he’s a dynamic performer and you won’t be able to stop dancing during his show- or any of these shows. Finally, Romain Virgo and Tarrus Riley, son of reggae singer Jimmy Riley (and of course Jimmy Cliff) will be closing the festivities on August 19.
