The annual Montreal Black & Blue Festival is one of the world’s great parties. What started back in 1991 as a simple fundraiser for HIV/AIDS related charities has become a full-fledged 7-day social, cultural, sports and party event that attracts thousands of people from around the globe to Montreal.

MONTREAL ATTRACTIONS: JET BOATING
Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of guiding New York blogger Joe.My.God. around Montreal. We ate at fancy restaurants, wandered through farmer’s markets and leisurely rolled along on Bixis. It was all lovely, but I wanted to make sure we upped the ‘adventure’ factor before he went home. So we went jet boating.
ROGERS CUP TENNIS: GET YOUR TICKETS NOW
It’s hot in Montreal lately, but it’s about to get even hotter. In a month, the biggest names in tennis will all be in Montreal! So far, 43 of the top 45 female tennis players in the world have confirmed they’ll compete in the Rogers Cup/Canadian Open , which takes place at the Uniprix Stadium in Jarry Park, August 13-22.
KAYAKING THE LACHINE CANAL
As soon as summer hits, I dream of water. Thanks to revitalization efforts along Montreal’s shorelines, waterways, harbourfront and main Port, most of the water surrounding Montreal is now (gasp!) monitored, and in places, navigable. In fact, as of next summer, a new map, the Blue Route (St. Lawrence Water Trail) will help canoe and kayak enthusiasts chart a network of safe launches, shelters and rest areas along the St-Lawrence in/around Montreal.
FLICKR PHOTO OF THE WEEK
Our Photo of the Week goes to Flickr extraordinaire Pedro de la Photo. Pedro has a whole photo set devoted to Montréal surfing – “these are surf pictures I grabbed at the Habitat ’67 wave in the Saint-Lawrence.” We know what you’re thinking, “There is SURFING in Montréal!?” And to this we reply, “Dude! There most certainly is the raddest of surfing!” Who needs an ocean when you’ve got, like, a river with a great current and break? You should totally check out Tamy Emma Pepin‘s article on Surfing in Montréal for all the tubular details. And if you promise to check it out, we promise never to attempt to speak “surfer” again. Deal? —————————————————————————————————————— Submit your Montréal pictures to our MONTRÉAL BUZZ FLICKR GROUP. And see our previous PHOTOS OF THE WEEK.
SKYDIVE IN MONTREAL
Who wouldn’t test run something called “the happiness machine”? Sounds a heck of a lot less daunting than skydiving, and it costs less too. So what is it?!
AC MILAN STARS LAND IN MONTREAL
AC Milan superstars, Ronaldinho and Clarence Seedorf, landed in Montreal last evening in preparation of the game they are playing this Wednesday against the Montreal Impact. The two football/soccer players quickly got out of the plane and into a bus that was taking them to their hotel, but I did manage to squeeze in a few questions to Ronaldinho about the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
LADY GAGA VS. MONTREAL CANADIENS
This take on Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance is absolutely awesome! It was created by the peeps over at Virgin Radio in honour of the Montreal Canadiens (and our stellar goalie, Jaroslav Halak) who are heading into Game 7 this evening against the Capitals of Washington. There is simply no place like Montreal when it comes to hockey playoffs. GO HABS GO!
