  • FLICKR PHOTO OF THE WEEK

    Posted by

Located in the heart of Montreal’s “International District” is a fountain designed by famed Quebec artist Jean-Paul Riopelle. The statue, entitled La Joute (or The Joust in english), is a group of bronze sculptures that incorporate the elements of fire and water in revolving 32 minute kinetic sequence. It’s a romantic gem that many travelers overlook.

Our photo of the week is by Jason Iplunshu, who also has a fine selection of other Montreal shots.

    Good work!

That morning we packed our bags and sought out crepes for breakfast before heading to the station. I cried while packing because I didn't want to leave - the four days we had spent in the city had been perfect. We decided to take one last stroll while waiting for our train. We walked out to the street only to discover it was closed off for the Pride Parade! I took a few minutes to snap some shots of everyone waiting for the parade to begin. The Montréal Buzz posted a photo:	There's something magical about a city that lives below a mountain and it's difficult to express why that is...there's something about Mont Royal and how it watches over Montreal as if its duty is to protect the city day and night. It's also so profound how you can be entrenched in cosmopolitan life and minutes later be surrounded by nature...and those clouds; there's no clouds like the ones over Montreal--surreal and oh so beautiful.
