  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: JANUARY

    Posted by

Montreal has many secrets – rendez-vous locations, after-hours parties – but let me tell you a secret about winter in Montreal: it’s really not that bad. Oh, there was a time when winter in Montreal meant a certain amount of suffering, but these days, well, we have the technology to not only stay warm but to stay highly entertained. January alone features weekends of outdoor dance parties, the opening of an ice hotel (and bar), family fun in the snow, new contemporary art, wild theatre, dance and live music to warm the soul…

  • CIRQUE ELOIZE MAKES IT RAIN IN MONTREAL

It’s no secret that Montreal loves a good circus. This city is so rich with circus artists and phenomenal contemporary circus performers that it feels like they’re everywhere. But the best of the best can be found in Cirque Éloize’s fifth production Rain, opening on December 6 at Monument National… … More

  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: DECEMBER

    Posted by

With summer’s frenzy of activity behind us, Montrealers are ready for the slow, sweet pace of December – of course, slow is a relative term here, as holiday parties, gift shopping, music, dancing, theatre, art shows and all sorts of merry-making abound throughout the month. It’s a busy time, but with sparkling lights in the streets and plenty of warm places to cozy up, Montreal’s atmosphere is nonetheless relaxed and welcoming… … More

In the wonderful week ahead, Montreal’s creative community is out in full force with their wares and artistic offerings in theatre, dance, music, yoga and miscellaneous (there’s always a lot of miscellaneous creative action in Montreal, which is part of why we love it so)…

  • HOLIDAY SEASON HITS THE MONTREAL STAGE

    Posted by

The holiday lights are officially on in the streets of Montreal and I can’t help but feel a warming in my heart too. It’s the sense that we’re all in this together – in a collective celebration of the holiday season. This feeling of ineffable shared experience is one of the reasons why people are drawn to the theatre at this time of year… … More

  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: NOVEMBER 11-17

Montreal puts its own in the spotlight this week: musicians, filmmakers, actors, dancers, all kinds of the assorted amazing talent this town seems to inspire on a daily basis. At the same time, locals merge with international stars at two film festivals, a new Opera Montreal production of Rusalka, a music and arts festival focused on the Arab world, and more. With this wide a scope, there’s no shortage of entertainment… … More

  • FREE THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: NOVEMBER

    Posted by

Falling a close second behind February as everyone’s least-favourite month (though Montreal has cleverly thrown a wrench in that logic by holding our Nuit Blanche festivities in February), November might not seem the most fabulous time in this northern town – but one look beyond the superficial and it’s abundantly clear that November is awesome, especially if you’re a fan of free stuff, the arts and leisurely times outside… … More

The encroaching winter hasn’t made an impact on the bustle of Montreal’s entertainment and arts scene– no fewer than three film festivals, a city-wide celebration of French music, brand new art that references masterful classics in accessible ways, classical and traditional music of the highest calibre from around the world, sweet nights at the theatre, experiments in dance and electronic arts, and indie-rock and folk to warm the heart… … More

  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL: OCTOBER 28 TO NOVEMBER 3

    Posted by

At the centre of the week ahead is Montreal’s favourite holiday: Halloween! Some have futilely argued with me that Halloween isn’t actually a holiday; they are wrong. Just like any other holiday worth its salt, Halloween has traditional costumes (witches, the living dead, sexy kitties), special dishes (candy), and time-honoured rituals (treat or treating, dance parties, making out with masked strangers). And this week, Halloween is celebrated from Friday night to Monday night! And in between, catch some live music, theatre, dance, a new movie and life-altering art… … More

No doubt about it, it’s fall now – the north winds blow, the leaves fall, the days grow shorter. Which also means Montreal nights are longer, and what better excuse to eat, drink and be merry well into the wee hours. Lovers of live music will adore this week in Montreal, as will lovers of film, as one film festival comes to an end and another begins. Montreal stages brace for drama, comedy, politics and the stomping of hundreds of horses hooves (seriously!). Art, poetry and spoken word round out the busy week with heady, ready made-in-Montreal creative stuff.. … More

The window looks directly up Avenue McGill College, to McGill campus and the mountain. I lived in Montreal during my time at the university, but this weekend was the first time my three cousins had been to the beautiful city. We spent the entire weekend walking up and down St. Denis, eating La Banquise's poutine in Parc La Fontaine, and napping in Parc Jeanne-Mance. But that first view of the city after our arrival at the hotel was definitely a moment that left my newbie cousins in awe of Montreal.
