THIS WEEKEND IN MONTREAL (JULY 2 TO 4)

Posted on June 30th, 2010 by .

If a forecast of sunshine and highs of 30 ºC /86 ºF isn’t enough to convince you, we’ve got ten other superb reasons for you to get your arse to Montreal this weekend.

——————————————————————————————————————

[art festival] FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL MONTRÉAL EN ARTS – As one of the greatest open-air art galleries in North America, FIMA is a one-kilometer stretch of visual art ranging from sculpture to live painting to short film screenings. If you are in town this weekend, a ‘walk through’ is a ‘must do.’

[festival] JAZZ FESTIVAL – The largest Jazz festival in the world, this Montréal institution is typically attended by two million people annually. This year you’ll be serenaded by Dave Brubeck, Cyndi Lauper, George Clinton and so much more. It’s your last weekend to jazz it up! Find a tempo that works for you.

[concert] MISSTRESS BARBARA – Oh sure, she’s officially part of the Jazz Festival (see above), but this Montrealer gets a whole shout out to her Sunday night show because we love her. Oh, did you happen to see our interview with her earlier this week? Click for her exclusive acoustic performance.

[music & art] NOCTURNE – The Contemporary Arts Museum features a live performance the first Friday of each month; this edition features songstress Clara Furey tickling her piano. La Vitrine is giving you a superb deal for dinner and drinks and more.

[shopping] TRÈS CHIC STYLINGS’S VIP SUMMER SALE – If you’re a label-queen, then this is your best weekend bet to find bags, dresses and suits at slashed prices. Think Juicy Couture, Stella McCartney, D & G, Louis Vuitton and more!

[party] COSMIC CAFÉ – After 5 years of spinning forward thinking music, Cosmic Café will feature NYC’s Joe Claussell to celebrate their birthday. Expect avant-garde programming that might include deep house, techno, salsa, afro beat and more! Our hips are already swaying to the beats.

[restaurant] PICA PICA – If you’re going to be wandering through the art festival (see above), you might want to replenish yourself with some fine Spanish Tapas (and sangria). The summer patio is open and waiting for you. Yes… you.

[comedy] STAND UP/STRIP DOWN – An evening of comedy and debauchery hosted by the tasty DeAnne Smith. Nudity might ensue. Just sayin’.

[gay life] DJ STÉFANE LIPPÉClub Unity will be vibrating the sounds of hometown hero Mr. Lippé. Dance among sweaty topless men.

[pyrotechnics] FIREWORKS – The top fireworks companies around the globe present 30-minute long shows on each Saturday night to compete for the top prize. The International des Feux, our International Fireworks Festival, attracts the world’s leading designers, bigbang technicians and sparkly optic addicts. Portugal represents this weekend!
