This weekend promises to be spooktacular in Montreal. We’ve got plenty of Halloween parties to release the inner ghoul. But if dressing up as a zombie or as Antoine Dodson doesn’t do it for you, there are plenty of other things to do this weekend in Montreal.

[film festival] IMAGE+NATION – Montreal’s LGBT film fest kicks off this weekend. It promises to be as diverse and stimulating (and campy!) as ever. Don’t miss James Franco as Allen Ginsberg in Howl on Friday night!

[cultural festival] FESTIVAL Du MONDE ARABE de MONTREAL – The 11th Festival proposes an innovative and eclectic program, covering a wide variety of musical styles and hosting a number of artists from Indonesia, Europe, Africa, USA, the Arab world, and Canada.

[show] TOHU – Multi-talented trapeze artist James Thiérrée (grandson of Charlie Chaplin) presents RAOUL – the tale of a deposed prince, languishing in a tower until, one day, an intruder appears…

[visual arts] OTTO DIX EXHIBIT – The first major North American exhibition devoted to this 20th century German figure who, during WWII, portrayed society as scornful and unattractive. It’s a terrifying and beautiful collection.

[botanical gardens] THE MAGIC OF LANTERNS – Each year the world famous Montreal botanical gardens feature stunning giant lanterns. This year’s theme, Like a Painting, is inspired by the most famous traditional Chinese painting: Qing Ming Shang He Tu. This is your last weekend for the lanterns!

[eating] LATE NIGHT NOSHING – With Halloween this weekend, chances are you’re going to be out late and needing some nourishment. Here are 5 Montreal greasy spoons to keep your adventures fuelled.

[spa] STUDIO BLISS – Four-hand massage, hot stone massage, rain massage, Bliss massage — um, yes please! Or if you’re feeling ambitious, do a yoga class and stretch your way into nirvana.

[sport] WWE RAW WORLD TOUR – If you like it raw, then you can’t miss these boisterous men superficially pounding the crap out of each other.

  • NIGHTMARE ON MAIN STREET – Organized my sex-crazed performance company, Glam Gam Productions, this promises to be everything but proper.
  • MAD MAUS :: VEUVE NOIRE – Montreal’s monthly fashionista party falls directly on Halloween. Wear your to-die-for couture garments.
  • VOYEUR HALLOWEEN – Great music meets Plateau-chic with a touch of punk, featuring NYC’s Motor.
