  • CREATIVE CROSSOVERS - ROCK STARS, PAINTERS, VIDEO ARTISTS

    Posted by

Montreal’s Musée d’art contemporain (‘’the MAC’’) features Music Video V, an annual summer fest of video clips.  Videos, today’s urban vocabulary, zoom around the world on YouTube, FaceBook and other sites.  The MAC’s exhibit shows videos created by artists.  From the  internationally renowned Pipilotti Rist (I lay on the floor and watched one of her videos projected onto a church ceiling at the Venice Biennale), to Canada’s Rodney Graham and Montrealer Pascal Grandmaison – artists re-interpret and re-invent the medium at this fun show.

In Live to Tell (2002), Benny Nemerofsky Ramsey offers a choral rendition before an audience of surveillance cameras, of the Madonna song of the same name. There are four ‘real’ music videos  - true “clips” in the sense of promoting an album. They are Someone Great by Doug Aitken for LCD Soundsystem, No One Does It Like You by Patrick Daughters and Marcel Dzama for Department of Eagles, Les yeux tout autour de la tête by Pascal Grandmaison for Jérôme Minière, and Elton John: I Want Love, with Robert Downey Jr. by Sam Taylor Wood for Elton John. Go and look – and listen – as soon as you can.
