  • THINGS TO DO IN MONTREAL IN FEBRUARY

    Posted by

In Canada, February is traditionally a month spent indoors at home (whether you’ve got a hot Valentine or not). But Montreal don’t play like that anymore: winter festival Montréal en Lumière makes the month bright, along with the festivities of Black History Month and an abundance of art shows, dance and theatre performances, winter outdoor activities, and, as ever, music…

  • BLACK HISTORY MONTH IN MONTREAL

    Posted by

Because this is Montreal, where festivals are so popular that a whole section of downtown is dedicated to them, it may come as no surprise that Montreal’s Black History Month has a festival spirit to it. • VALENTINE'S DAY IN MONTREAL

    Posted by

Oh Saint Valentine’s Day. Intimate candle-lit dinners, slow and seductive gazes over the rim of a wine glass, the smoldering glow of a crackling fireplace, the delicate smell of rose petals as snow slowly falls in love with the ground… Montreal has always been a hopeless romantic, here’s how to make the most of it on February 14…

In the poetic words of the great Britney Spears: “Keep on dancing ’till the world ends.” This is exactly what Montreal will be doing for 2012. Though we’re only one month in, the 2012 cultural calendar is already filling up fast…

  • FAMILY FRIENDLY FUN AT FETE DES NEIGES

    Posted by

Winter can be fun for the whole family. In Montreal anyway, as Montrealers are very good at making winter seem like the best season of the year. They certainly don’t let a blanket of snow and subzero temperatures keep them from frolicking around Parc Jean-Drapeau for the Fête des Neiges… … More

  • MONTREAL'S SNOW VILLAGE TAKES OVER PARC JEAN-DRAPEAU

    Posted by

Until March 31, Parc Jean Drapeau will be home to Montreal’s most wonderfully wintery attraction, the Snow Village. In fact, the Snow Village is an hommage to the city itself, boasting icy reproductions of Montreal’s building and monuments, not to mention a hotel, restaurant, bar, convention centre, chapel and, fittingly, a whole bunch of igloos. An obvious must-see for locals and tourists alike. To make reservations, visit the Snow Village website or call (514) 788-2181.

  • CHOREOGRAPHED COOL: WINTER DANCE IN MONTREAL

    Posted by

Like most professionals, highly skilled and experienced dancers can make their art appear so easy – it’s astounding to see something so beautiful yet so rigorous, and, truth be told, satisfying to see dancers sweat to challenging choreography. That’s my experience anyway, because challenging – in the most positive sense – is more often than not the operative word in Montreal dance… … More

  • A-TRAK DJS MONTREAL'S IGLOOFEST

    Posted by

A full day of snowfall did not deter thousands of Montrealers and tourists alike from showing up for the kickoff of Igloofest, which continues until January 28. People showed up in their best winter wear, explored the fest’s many fun and frosty features, and, of course, danced the night away to Montreal expat A-Trak. There’s plenty more to come, so make sure that this is the year you figure out what all the fuss is about.

I really needed to get out of Toronto at that time, to reflect, and to surround myself with new stimuli. It was very cold during the visit, but I spent a lot of time walking around anyway, taking photos, going to galleries, and visiting restaurants with old friends. This shot is on Sherbrooke, just west of the Main. I've posted this before, in a flickr pool called "It can't be more Montreal than this". I like this image because it looks like it's very cold out, and yet there are people moving about in what I think is one of the country's most charming cities.
