Coming on vacation to Montréal and want to keep up with your exercise routine? I have the perfect plan for you! It’s called Mount Royal, aka The Lungs of Montréal!
A jog to the top of the city’s mountain will give you all the energy needed for your trip, while rewarding you with a breathtaking view of the city.
Mount Royal is my favourite place to go running in Montréal. You can access the mountain from different sides, but the most popular entrance is from Parc Avenue. You’ll see there’s a big Angel Statue there. Can’t miss it! (It’s where they do the “TamTams” every Sunday, a unique Montréal celebration of dance and music with hundreds of people playing hand drums and hanging out in the park.)
From there you’ll be able to find your way to the paths that go all the way up to the Kondiaronk Belvedere, a beautiful observatory where you’ll be able to pause, take in the view from the top of the mountain, and grab something to eat in the chalet.

Walking to the top of the mountain takes around 30 minutes, so calculate a bit less if you plan on jogging. Oh, and if you find the park looks familiar, it’s because it was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the famous landscape architect behind New York’s Central Park!
Olmsted designed the park to be accessible to people of all classes and physical conditions, so don’t be afraid to take on the challenge. All you need is a good pair of running shoes!
