At super speeds, F1 tires touch, scrape and bounced off the asphalt of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Now these marks have been transformed into works of art by artist Martin Désilets. Symbols of speed, macho-ism and super engineering, these traces and bits of rubber could seem banal. But under Doutil’s photographic gaze, they are lyrically beautiful. Désilets takes pictures of the marks and, through the magic of Photoshop, creates beautiful abstract works. The marks racing horizontally across the pictures make you ‘feel’ the race; the velocity, the careening cars. Aptly called ‘Les Élégies’, the exhibit is an ode to danger, and yet a celebration of life.
