MONTREAL BEST NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTIES

I know you’re all super busy returning Christmas presents online, but, when you have a second, here are some of the best New Year’s Eve parties in Montreal…

NYE at CFC: First off, this event, featuring great DJs rocking everything from disco to hip hop, is cool because it announces the resurrection of Montreal’s beloved Zoobizarre, which will now be known as the Centre Fusion Culturelles, aka the CFC. Second, they are so serious about taking requests that they’ve set up a phone line where you can leave a message containing a list of all the songs you absolutely need to hear: 514-558-4855.

Casa del Popolo/Sala Rossa: If your New Year’s resolution is to be better at having fun than this combo of parties might be the destination for you. Noted punologist DJ Mark Slutsky and Raf Katigbak bring the eclectically classy fire at Casa, while a quick stumble over to Sala reveals another slice of awesome, as The Goods- Scott C & Andy Williams- bring another installment on Montreal’s best dance party.

Get Nice NYE at Blizzarts: Grab the rapsack backpacks and head to Blizzarts to ring in the New Year with some midnight champers and DJ Cosmo

Resolution 11: Taking place in Laval’s massive Red Lite after-hours club, this rave throwdown goes from 10pm until noon the next day, allowing one to party effectively into the next year. Headliners include Cosmic Gate, AVICII, Mark Anthony and many more.

NYE at the Comedy Nest: 50 clams gets you some food, champagne and assorted goodies, but mostly a vat of laughs from Pete Zedlacher

Heidi Foss and Massimo, whose Myspace page looks like the bedroom walls of a teenage boy.

Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill: In keeping with tradition, the downtown jazz emporium rings in the New Year with Montreal’s “Queen of the Blues” Dawn Tyler Watson.

Cirque De Boudoir’s Carnavalesque:  Quebec loves the circus and this event, held at Old Montreal’s Scene features circus, carnival and burlesque acts. And tarot readings, “sideshow freaks” and a dungeon area. In short, I believe this event is for single people and/or swingers.

Velvet’s Animal House Party: One of Montreal’s hottest nightspots has a 3-area party rumble, featuring Jordan Dare & Hatchmatik in the Attic, Stephane Cocke in the Lounge and, deep in the Underground, Duvall Jonah’s Ear and Christian Pronovost. Plus a TBA after-party that’s bound to be off the proverbial chain.

House of Reggae: The House of Reggae plays to its strengths/shocks no one by having a NYE tribute to Bob Marley featuring the Uprising Band and guests.

Le Bal des Boys: The multi-venue, 4-day schedule of this event reveals that this not just for the Gays but for all people who party incredibly hard. And then party some more.

Altitude 737: I’ve never been to the club floating 43 floors up above downtown Montreal, but their NYE party, Reveillon, might be the perfect time to try it. Mostly because I’m totally intrigued by what their $2 VIP service gets you.

Frenche ou Meurs: If you haven’t yet been to one of the great nights these folks put on, their NYE event with We Are Wolves and Pompes Tes Pipes at (the sorely underused) Theatre Plaza sounds like the perfect opportunity to do so.

W Hotel: Down at the W, they’ve got no-cover events in the Plateau Lounge and Wunderbar, with table service, DJs, live bands, and, wait for it, balloons!
Il Motore: The motor hosts the eminently talented Rae Spoon and several people with cool names that I don’t know anything about.

Time Super Club: I’m adding them to the list because they started following me as I was writing this post and it seemed like a nice thing to do. 100 samolians for the dinner menu, half that for normal NYE entry.

New Year’s Eve XS: This event at the Telus Theatre bills itself as Montreal’s biggest and most exclusive event. This will either send you directly to the site to buy tickets, or, make you run as far away as you can.
