  • THE MAGIC OF LANTERNS RETURNS!

    Posted by

This video is a tease from the 2009 Magic of Lanterns at the Montreal Botanical Gardens. I am reposting it today as it never gets old and is consistently one of my favorite ways to celebrate fall in the city. Imagine walking through the most stunning Chinese garden at night, surrounded by more than 700 colorful lanterns, with the sounds of traditional Chinese instruments in the fresh autumn breeze. Just the top of Montreal’s Olympic Stadium rising through the trees is there to remind you that you are right in the heart of the city!

Inspired by Qing Ming Shang He Tu, a most famous traditional Chinese painting, the thèçeme for the 2010 edition of The Magic of Lanterns, Like a Painting, is also a tribute to this year’s Shanghai World Expo and to 25 years of friendship between Montreal and Shanghai.

The 18th edition of the Magic of Lanterns also coincides with the Insectarium’s 20th anniversary. For the occasion, giant lanterns in the shapes of grasshoppers, dragonflies and butterflies have been added along the paths around the museum devoted to insects.

If you’re planning a trip to Montreal between September 10 and October 3, it’s the place to be, whether you’re alone or with your girlfriends, husband or children. Regardless of your age, you’ll be amazed at the vibrant colors and glowing lights.
