PreviousHAITI EN FOLIE: MONTREAL FESTIVAL CELEBRATES HAITIAN CULTURE!
  • THIS WEEKEND IN MONTREAL (JULY 23 TO 25)

    Posted by

This weekend in Montreal there are a few awesome festivals to choose from, enabling you to get your daily recommended amount of giggles, acrobats and African beats.

But, while you’re here, you’ll probably need to eat at some point. And you might be in the mood to check out some art. And there’s a chance you’ll want to buy a new T-shirt. Wow, you’re going to be busy!

We’ve got ten diverse recommendations for you to have a jam-packed, incredible weekend in Montreal.

    ——————————————————————————————————————

[music festival] NUIT D’AFRIQUES - Renowned for its colourful atmosphere and quality of programming, Montreal’s Festival International Nuits d’Afrique presents music and culture from 500 artists originating from more than 30 different countries across Africa, South America and the Caribbean.

[comedy festival] JUST FOR LAUGHS – It’s the final weekend for the world’s largest comedy festival. A whole slew of comedians and street performers will be descending on the city. Check out the free action at the Just For Laughs headquarters in Quartier des Spectacles!

[circus festival] COMPLÉTMENT CIRQUE – Led by our world famous Cirque du Soleil, and continued with numerous other circus companies and schools, Montreal has positioned itself as the North American destination for circus arts. This festival provides the perfect opportunity to see why we’ve earned that reputation.

[restaurant] LE SAINT-GABRIEL – Founded in 1754, the resto is known for its fine French and Québec cuisine, served in a charming atmosphere reminiscent of yesteryear. Plus there’s a graceful terrace for those sultry summer days!

[concert] STING – Performing his most celebrated songs, while backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. On Saturday night, Sting will put on his red light and croon into the hearts of Montrealers.

[shopping] BLANK – A Québec-based company that sells quality clothing entirely made in Québec, therefore supporting local economy and the environment (#win). Plus they’ve got fun T-shirts with snappy sayings that no one else will be sporting back home!

[sport] INTERNATIONAL DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL – With free admission, live entertainment, the various arts and crafts, and the ever-popular Children Drawing Contest, this could be your perfect family event of the weekend!

[gay life] GAYBASH – An underground homosexual dance party in a kitschy venue. Dress up in your sluttiest eye liner, throw on your gold hoop earrings, start growing a guido mustache… wear whatever it takes for you to get elegantly wasted.

[contemporary art] YESTERDAY’S TOMORROWS – If you’re like me, then you tend to drool as you flip through the pages of Dwell magazine. Until September 6, the Contemporary Art Museum features an exhibit that explores what remains of Modernist utopian ideals. Modernism forever!

[pyrotechnics] FIREWORKS – The top fireworks companies around the globe present 30-minute long shows on each Saturday night to compete for the top prize. The International des Feux, our International Fireworks Festival, attracts the world’s leading designers, big bang technicians and sparkly optic addicts. This Saturday is extra exciting because Canada will be representing! Get out there and cheer on the hometown favorites!
