  • MC CORD MUSEUM'S TOY EXHIBITION

    Posted by

If you didn’t save your toys from childhood (and who did?), here’s a magical occasion to go back in time.  You can see not only teddy bears and cars from your era, but toys from almost a hundred years ago! Best part? Children are admitted free.

Who cannot remember carefully arranging teddy bears so they could share a tea party?  Or racing trucks around and around the room?  Whatever your childhood recollection, a visit to this charming exhibit is a must when you are in Montreal.

The magic starts outside the McCord Museum. Look up. There are little birdhouses hidden in the trees in front of the entrance. Look down. Painted footprints guide you to the classical front door. Once inside you will be enchanted. The show not only makes one feel like a child again – you have to act like one.  Many of the scenes can only be viewed if you bend down to a child’s height. A beautifully decorated doll’s house is best seen if you are 3-4’ tall.

First. like Alice, you peek through the wonderland ‘keyhole’ and see an array of wide-eyed dolls from another era:  their faces are made of china, and their eyes are wide. A black and white chess board is populated with a slew of tin soldiers. And before you think that maybe this is just ‘’a doll show’’, wait:  the toy cars, firetrucks and planes are riveting. Good news for parents.  While you are at the McCord, you can pop into the shop and find fabulous gifts (for all!)

    TO NOTE:

While you are in town, bring the family to the McCord for arts workshops. (check the website below for times)
