  • CULINARY TOUR OF MONTREAL: FOLLOW THE GUIDE

    Posted by

Walking tours are always a popular activity when visiting a new city. But how about one that revolves around everybody’s favourite topic: food! Visites de Montréal tour called “Flavors and Aromas of Old Montreal” does a great job of avoiding big crowds and cliché destinations. I should know, I tried it myself!

    http://www.youtube.com/v/YAWDYrkSG2E&hl=en&fs=1

My tour guide, Ronald Poiré, turned out to be gold mine of information, even for someone like me who knows a thing or two about food. In fact, he did a great job of retelling Quebec’s history using a different food-related anecdotes. For example, did you know that the ketchup we eat on our traditional pâté chinois (that’s Quebec-style shepherd’s pie) comes from the Indonesian condiment called ket-tsiap?

As you walk, you’ll visit restaurants, shops and boutiques and you’ll also make stops at various points of interest. When I went, we took some time to admire the Notre-Dame Basilica the bank monuments on Saint-Jacques Street, and Old Montreal’s most lively street, Saint-Paul. Even though I went on a drizzly day, we still managed to have a great time!

If you’re worried about getting lost in translation, fear not: the tour is available in English. Just check their website for more info.

    • By larry 10-03-16 at 14:45 PM Help! One summer a long time ago (1967), I spent some time in Montreal. There was a restaurant downtown in an old stone bldg. 2
      floors with large fireplaces. one
floor served egg dishes cooked on
the open fire, the other cooked
crepe dishes. Do you know the name? Is it still open? Is it still good and interesting?
      Thanks
      larry
