  • FOOD SAMPLES AT JEAN-TALON MARKET

    Posted by

It’s fall, the best time of year to visit Montreal’s Jean-Talon Market (one of the biggest outdoor markets in North America)! I’ve written about it before, but with the fall harvest coming in, I can’t help but mention it again. Jean Talon Market is an absolute must on any foodie’s travel itinerary in Montreal.

Popular with locals year-round, I think Jean-Talon market is at its best in fall, with all the bright yellows, oranges and reds. I love to see the Italian families picking up crates of tomatoes – I can only imagine the amazing stores of sauce they’ll make with them. Meanwhile, I go for the peppers and eggplants, which I make into antipasti.

Regardless of the time of year, however, Jean-Talon Market is great for picking up local goods – like farm-fresh fruits and veggies, Quebec cheeses, locally-raised meats, and even Quebec wines and ciders – having lunch or just wandering through, feasting your eyes on the incredible display of produce and enjoying the abundant free samples. For the full scoop on my favourite places in the market, check out my previous post on Jean-Talon Market. You definitely should not go there on a full stomach!

To get there, take the metro to Jean-Talon station. From there, follow the signs or ask locals. It’s about 5 minutes by foot to the market.

If you’re really into organic food, check out the Outremont market, which runs daily/on Sundays from 10am to 4pm until October 4. It’s on Dollard Avenue near Van Horne St.
