  • MONTREAL BRUNCH: LA CANTINE IS OH-SO QUEBECOIS

    Posted by

La Cantine is fun retro restaurant with yummy brunch menu that goes further than the traditional eggs and bacon. It’s brunch, revisited! In one sitting, you can taste four Quebec-style breakfast specialties all in one plate. “A client once told me that we energize traditional breakfasts. It made me smile,” explains Pierre-Luc Chevalier, co-owner of La Cantine.

That client has it right. With caramelized pears, goat cheese and pistachio bread, the “Morning Croque” I ordered was a fabulous twist on the usual ham-and-cheese Croque Monsieur. It was served with mashed potatoes and fruit. But for a full-meal deal, Quebec-style, order “The Total.” Scrambled eggs, bacon, pineapple ham, baked beans, pancakes and cretons to feel like a modern lumberjack!

The owner’s eye for details can be seen everywhere, with a look that will remind you of the Sears catalogue, circa 1970 – in a good way! Homemade jam and steamed milk brought right to your table add a touch of class to the hungry man’s breakfast!

The space also has a boutique that offers Arhoma bakery’swonderful baked goods and local products. Tasty souvenirs to bring back home – if they make it that far.

If you just can’t make it out of bed in time for brunch at La Cantine, rest assured they have a pretty dazzling evening menu. “Kraft dinner” linguini, Sheppard’s pie with bison and boar meat instead of ground beef… I’ll be back to try it all.

The Montréal Buzz posted a photo:	This is the view from our hotel room when my cousins and I spent the weekend in Montreal last July. The window looks directly up Avenue McGill College, to McGill campus and the mountain. I lived in Montreal during my time at the university, but this weekend was the first time my three cousins had been to the beautiful city. We spent the entire weekend walking up and down St. Denis, eating La Banquise's poutine in Parc La Fontaine, and napping in Parc Jeanne-Mance. But that first view of the city after our arrival at the hotel was definitely a moment that left my newbie cousins in awe of Montreal. Taking the most beautiful place in Montreal, the Old Port, and using it as a backdrop to Montreal's other beautiful feature: the people!
