The latest hotel to be unveiled in Montréal is a blend of historical character and the contemporary functionality. Located in the heart of downtown, Le Mount Stephen Hotel offers a new level of luxury to travellers. In fact, it has already been listed on The Leading Hotels of the World — one of only three Canadian properties.

A property rooted in history

The original George Stephen House finished construction in 1883 and named after — you guessed it — George Stephen, co-founder of the Canadian Pacific Railway company. Stephen was one of the richest men in North America and was awarded the title of “Baron” by the British Monarchy. He existed in a world not unlike Downton Abbey.

Following Stephen’s death at the age of 91, the house was eventually sold and converted into a gentlemen’s club, which served to gather both local and international dignitaries. Over the passing decades, various renovations took place, honouring the heritage of the building while giving it new life. Notably, in 1971, due to its unique lineage and style, the edifice was recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada. Two years ago, work began on transforming the building into a luxury hotel property, while maintaining the unique architectural roots.

Noble event spaces, luxury rooms

As an independent luxury property, Le Mount Stephen Hotel makes an ideal option for sophisticated travellers — especially those who appreciate a sense of place. The lobby and reception counter (adorned with the hotel’s coat of arms) are located on the ground floor of the new wing of the house, which also includes several event spaces. The most notable of the event spaces is the 5000-square-foot Elizabeth Grand Ballroom. Perfect for regal entertaining.

Characterized by an angled glass roof, an 11-storey addition stands at the rear of the period mansion and is discreetly connected by a short passage. In this new construction, the 90 hotel rooms are furnished with such amenities as Nespresso coffeemakers and chromotherapy rain shower heads.

Whether for leisure or business, Le Mount Stephen Hotel presents an attractive new option.
