The Palais des congrès de Montréal is the formal name of the local convention centre. Since opening in 1983, the environmentally-friendly facility has established a reputation for hosting exceptional gatherings, welcoming more than 6,500 events and nearly 17 million visitors. Situated in the heart of downtown Montréal, “The Palais” — as it’s casually known— houses versatile and ultramodern facilities for conventions, conferences, meetings, galas and exhibitions. Essentially, it’s a stellar place to host a gathering.

The Ambassadors’ Club

Founded in 1985, the Ambassadors’ club includes 330 influential and dynamic individuals who play an active role in advancing the reputation of the Palais des congrès and the city of Montréal among influential circles all over the globe. Their goal is to encourage world leaders to choose Montréal for their next congress or major exhibition.

Montréal is known globally as a knowledge hub thanks to its world class researchers, universities and research centres. The involvement of Ambassadors is invaluable to the process of bringing international conventions to the city. It shows international decision-makers the dynamic spirit and support that exists within the city’s key economic sectors.

How to Become Involved

Becoming an Ambassador is a uniquely rewarding adventure. The Montréal business community needs talent, motivation and, of course, connection to new international contacts. Helping to attract and organize an international event takes work. But the payback can be immense: having your name associated with a major convention, recognition from your peers, positive fallout for your company or university, an international spotlight on your field and Montréal.

Acknowledging Contributions

The Palais and Fonds de recherche du Québec (the province’s research fund) are in partnership to not only attract events to Montréal, but also to recognize the work of researchers who are investing their time and energy into attracting international scientific conventions. In November 2016, during the Fonds de recherche du Québec forum organized annually by the partners, they presented a round of awards to folks making notable contributions.

Gaétan Laroche and Diego Mantovani of Université Laval, in collaboration with Sophie Lerouge of the ETS school of engineering, for the 10th World Biomaterials Congress

Jean-Marie Dufour of McGill University, for the 11th World Congress of the Econometric Society

Pierre Talbot of INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier, for the International Congress of Microbiology

And to everyone who is working to attract meetings and conventions to Montréal — we salute you!
