Rosewood

This chic after-work hangout mixes genius-worthy inventiveness with retro vibes. The Rosewood’s version of an Old Fashioned is a classic mix of bourbon, angostura and orange twist gets boosted with a spritz of orange syrup and a blast of cedar smoke. Accords

As one of the largest wine bars in the country, Accords has an impressive cellar of sensibly selected bottles from local vineyards, as well as the best from abroad. Cuisine is seasonal, prepared from high-quality Québec products, including homemade desserts and bread. For a group, the chef and sommelier will help plan the perfect menu, with clever wine pairings and tailored menu items (such as gluten free). 212 Notre Dame West

Mimi la Nuit

Join the handsome crowd in this Old Montréal haunt for a sip at some truly exemplary drinks. Mimi la Nuit’s short cocktail menu hits all the bases: some sweet, some savoury, some traditional, but most pretty unique. Start off with a plateful of street-food inspired snacks and a Shag at Sea: an absolutely unexpected (and delicious) mix of cognac, pine syrup and chocolate bitters. 22 Rue Saint Paul East

Flyjin

Head two blocks south of the Palais for a true taste of Japan. In the spirit of isakayas, Flyjin serves Japanese snacks (miso baked oysters, anyone?) alongside cocktails that break the mold with their unique Asian inflections. Try the Zen Buddha: a fragrant blend of Korean soju, cucumber juice, mint infused syrup, fresh lime juice and bubbles. 417 Rue Saint-Pierre

Le Mal Nécessaire

A modern Tiki bar hidden in the heart of Chinatown? Yup. From the design to the flavours, Le Mal Nécessaire has it all on point. The tipples are like nothing you’ve tasted. Try the tropically refreshing Chia Fresca: gin, cucumber, coconut water, chia seeds (yes), lemon and Thai basil.  1106 B, Boulevard Saint-Laurent

La Champagnerie

It’s a constant party at La Champagnerie, where the glittering crowd clinks glasses of every sort of bubbly imaginable. Explore the delectable AND hilariously named cocktail options, like the Michael Bubbly (vodka, Lillet, sesame syrup and bubbles) or the Salty Pampam (gin, Aperol, grapefruit syrup, salt bitters and bubbles). 343, rue Saint-Paul East

Bord’Elle

Relive the Roaring Twenties at Bord’Elle, the glittering spot where Montréal’s financial district lets its hair down. The cocktails are retro-modern like the décor, offering boutique flavours that include a whole selection of gin & tonics (try the girly Pour Elle, with notes of elder flower, black pepper and strawberries). 390 Rue Saint-Jacques

Maggie Oakes

Part of the stunning Hôtel William Gray, the stunning long gray marble bar at Maggie Oakes also features an oyster and charcuterie station. The cocktail list is concise but sophisticated. If you’re staying for dinner, the dry-aged steaks balance out with an arsenal of colourful vegetables. 426 Place Jacques-Cartier

The Coldroom

A find-it-if-you-can bar, The Coldroom is a subterranean enclave redolent with gentlemanly grace and stunning cocktails. Explore the inspired seasonal menu, or the house spins on classics including the sharing drink, Granpa’s Cough Medecine: Jagermeister, Johnny Walker Black, clementine, eucalyptus, lemon and vanilla bitters. Tiradito

Peru does Montréal at this newly-opened bar a few steps north of the convention centre. Pisco — a brandy produced in winemaking regions of Peru — cocktails are the main attraction at Tiradito. Beginners opt for a traditional Pisco Sour, while cocktail connoisseurs go for the Bloody Tigre. If you get the nibbles, try the ceviche with a side of house-made kimchi. 1076 Rue de Bleury
