Montréal once again named UIA’s leading event city in the Americas!
Each year, the Union of International Associations (UIA) compiles their list of the top host cities in the world for international events, and once again Montréal ranks first in the Americas! Due to the number of international events held in our fair city over the previous year, Montréal took the lead ahead of New York, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Toronto and Washington. We’ve been here before, but if you could see us now we’d be beaming with pride and maybe even blushing a little (and if we say so ourselves, this title’s going to look nice up on the shelf next to Montréal’s recent ranking by the ICCA as the top city in North America for international association meetings.)
The DL on the UIA
A research institute and documentation centre with a specialist focus on international associations and organizations, the UIA has been keeping its ear to the ground on global trends and issues since 1907. Since 1960, they’ve compiled their annual International Meetings Statistics Report, based on the international meetings held around the world in the previous year. Their role in international meetings is an important one, and their figure-based findings don’t lie!

OK, OK, since you’ve asked, there’s a few things about Montréal that we’re proud to share – and which meeting attendees have also loved about our city throughout the years:
- It’s easy to get to: Offering non-stop flights to 146 destinations (89 of which are international), Montréal-Trudeau Airport makes hosting an event here as easy as 1-2-3. YUL (Montréal’s 3-letter international airport code) was also named one of the Top 10 Airports in North America by the Skytrax World Airport Awards, and eye-popping improvements and renovations ensure a strong placing on that list for years to come.
- It’s easy to get around: Incredibly walkable (even in the winter months) or traversed with pedal power on the city’s BIXI bike-sharing system, commuting around town is a snap. Extensive public transport options including the beloved Métro subway system are simple to navigate and use. After a few hours, your attendees will feel as comfortable as locals in getting from place to place.
- Students and visitors love it: In a poll conducted by the Ipsos research firm, 97 per cent of business and leisure travellers who’ve visited Montréal would recommend the city to their colleagues and friends, and the city also ranks as the top city in North America for students (third internationally overall).
- Montréal is a city of innovation: Top of the list in scientific fields like AI and neuroscience, Montréal leads the way in research and breakthroughs and the city lives on the cutting edge. Named a UNESCO City of Design in 2006, there’s even a Smart and Digital City office to keep Montréal on its toes in innovating new ways of city living.
